Continental Battery Systems Turns Used Batteries into New Opportunities Through Recycling Program

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#AutomotiveAftermarket--Continental Battery Systems is highlighting its long-standing battery recycling and recovery program, an initiative designed to support a more sustainable battery supply chain by collecting, testing, reconditioning and recycling used batteries.

“Our goal is to keep batteries out of landfills,” said Juan Sierra, Senior VP Supply Chain of Continental Battery Systems. “Every battery we collect is either tested for reuse, reconditioned or sent back into the recycling stream so those materials can be recovered and used again.”

Through its exchange-based model, Continental Battery Systems collects old batteries when delivering new ones, helping ensure used batteries stay out of landfills and remain in the proper recovery stream. The program supports a circular economy approach by helping close the loop between distribution, collection, recycling and manufacturing.

Used batteries undergo testing and reconditioning before being resold to customers. Batteries that have reached the end of their useful life move into the recycling stream, where manufacturers and smelters can recover valuable materials for use in new batteries and other products.

“Lead acid batteries are one of the most recycled consumer products in the world, with material recovery rates of up to 99%,” said Sierra.

As battery demand continues to grow, Continental Battery Systems expects recycling technology to become even more important. By combining collection, reuse, reconditioning and recycling, CBS continues to support responsible battery management while helping customers and manufacturers participate in a more sustainable system.
