Make the invisible, visible: a passive, whole-home awareness layer built using Spatial Intelligence, designed for the operational realities of in-home care.

WATERLOO, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#caregiverbycognitive--Cognitive Systems today announced the launch of Caregiver by Cognitive, a Spatial Intelligence layer for home care agencies built on the company’s pioneering WiFi Motion™ sensing technology.
Caregiver makes visible what has long been invisible to agencies and the families they serve: the hours between scheduled visits, where most of a client’s day unfolds and where most early signals of change go unnoticed.
In a typical home care arrangement, scheduled caregiver visits cover only a few hours of a client’s day. The remaining hours are largely invisible to the agency. Coordinators rely on what a caregiver observes during a visit and on what is later reported by the client or a family member. When a client’s daily pattern changes, the first signals often appear between visits, in those invisible hours and may surface only after they become urgent.
Caregiver changes that picture.
Using Spatial Intelligence, Caregiver learns the patterns that define normal for that person: when they typically wake, where they spend their time, how active they are throughout the day, and when they rest, all without cameras, wearables or microphones. Over time, those baselines become a reference point. When a pattern shifts, care teams gain earlier visibility and more context for conversations with families.
Caregiver is built on Cognitive Systems’ Spatial Intelligence layer and uses four simple CarePod smart plugs to sense behaviour and trends throughout the home. There are no cameras, no microphones, and nothing the client has to wear or charge. Coverage extends throughout the whole home, rather than only in rooms where individual sensors have been installed.
For home care agencies, the implications are operational. Care coordinators gain context between visits instead of waiting for the next report. Care plans, often reassessed on fixed schedules, can be adjusted in response to what is happening day to day. Conversations with families can move from anxious check-ins to informed updates. Agencies can demonstrate their value every day, not only when care is delivered in person. For operators, that shift translates into stronger family confidence, clearer evidence of value, and deeper client relationships over time.
“Home care has always been built around the visits an agency can schedule and staff,” said Taj Manku, Founder and CEO of Cognitive Systems. “The hours in between have stayed invisible by default. Caregiver does not replace the work caregivers and coordinators do. It gives them a layer of awareness about what is happening during those hours, so the decisions they make are better informed and the conversations they have with families are grounded in something real.”
“Caregiver by Cognitive has had a positive impact on our company. Families are feeling at ease and are able to recognize any changes in daily activities. We are able to better understand their routines and can plan nursing staff visits accordingly now.
Cheri Petch, CEO of Articulate Nursing.
