Industry-first certification enables code-compliant fire detection and fire alarm integration
WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Teledyne FLIR, part of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), today announced that its FLIR A40, A50 and A70 (Axx-Series) thermal imaging cameras are the first models to achieve UL 2684 listing. This new classification brings certified early detection thermal imaging into code-compliant fire detection and alarm systems, a significant expansion in early identification and response capabilities in the fire mitigation industry.
The UL 2684 listing allows engineers, system designers and facility operators to incorporate Axx-Series cameras into fire detection systems designed in accordance with NFPA 72, which expands the role of thermal imaging beyond preventative maintenance and condition monitoring into certified early fire detection applications. By detecting abnormal heat signatures before smoke or flames develop, these cameras provide earlier warning of potential fire events, helping facilities respond more quickly while protecting people, property and critical operations.
Unlike conventional smoke or heat detectors that generally respond after combustion has begun, Axx-Series cameras continuously monitor equipment, assets and large areas for developing thermal anomalies. When predefined alarm conditions are met, the cameras can initiate fire alarm events through compatible control systems, enabling faster response while helping reduce the risk of fire escalation. By using a single camera to monitor multiple assets or large areas, Axx-Series cameras simplify system design for data centers, warehouses and distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, utility and energy infrastructure, and other commercial and industrial applications requiring rapid thermal event detection.
